Is this approved by Orthodox priests?

The hardcover, yes. Before it reached you, The Orthodox Faith Made Clear was read and approved by Orthodox priests, and today it is carried in Orthodox church shops.

The four companions are written by the same rule as the book: nothing invented. Their teaching is drawn from the Church's own service books, from Scripture, and from named saints and teachers, and every quotation is attributed so you can check it.

Is this book for you?

If you…

  • Feel something off with your faith, but can't name it
  • Believe with all your heart, but feel far distant from God
  • Tired of church feeling like a to-do list
  • Wonder how one church became 45,000 denominations
  • Feel you're never enough, no matter how hard you try
  • Have questions Sunday school never answered
  • Long for a faith that remained unchanged through the test of time
  • Want to face the end with peace instead of fear
  • Feel drawn to candles, icons, and ancient worship without knowing why
  • Want something beautiful the whole family can read together

Then the Orthodox Faith Made Clear. was written for you.

The peace of certainty starts here

If you've ever sat in church and felt that something was quietly missing. The depth. The reverence. The sense that God was actually in the room.

it isn't only you. It's the Church.

And the Church that Christ and the Apostles built is still here. But in 1054 half of Christendom walked away to protect the original Christianity, and hasn't changed since.

Sometimes you have to ask: Is this the way Christ actually asked to be worshipped? That is not a question of taste. It is a question of record, and the record is what this book lays out.

This book won't tell you your church is wrong. It shows you the original faith, the church that stood the test of time, made crystal clear so you can have peace of certainty

Not a denomination. Not a religion. The relationship Christ came to offer.

What happened to the church Jesus built?

"…and on this rock I will build my church." (Matthew 16:18)

One church. So how are there more than 45,000 denominations today?

Because we started reading it alone. Every century, someone opened the Bible, decided for himself what it meant, and founded a church on the answer.

The Orthodox Church never did that. It reads Scripture the way it was understood in the room it was written, alongside the Apostles who wrote it and the Councils that received it.

"The Orthodox Faith Made Clear" walks you through exactly how one became forty-five thousand: 33 AD, 1054, 1517, and everything after.

All the beliefs Christ and the Apostles built in one book - eight topics covered, plus three free gifts with every copy

Two thousand years, made clear

  • What Orthodox Christianity actually is. What “Right belief” and right worship actually look like. - Pg. 22

  • What happened to the church Jesus built. One Church, born at Pentecost, remaining unbroken. - Pg. 28

  • How 45,000 denominations came to be. The Great Schism, then the Reformation. - Pg. 36

  • A Sunday in the ancient church. The Divine Liturgy walked through the way Peter structured it. - Pg. 115

  • Why they pray with pictures. A window vs worship. - Pg. 130

  • How to get to Heaven. Grace, and what "faith without works is dead" really means. - Pg. 201

  • The communion of saints. The living and the departed, in your household. - Pg. 138

  • How to take your first step. A simple prayer rule, and how to find a parish. - Pg. 170

Then what? How to live it

Almost everyone finishes The Orthodox Faith Made Clear with the same question: so how do I actually live this?

The four companions answer it in the four places faith is lived, or quietly lost: in worship, in prayer, with your children, and in your marriage.

Each is a 52-page paperback in the same design as the book, and none of them repeats a page of it.

  • Margaret H, USA

    I finally understand the timeline

Catholic 1054, Protestant 1517, and I had never once stopped to ask what came before any of that. Seeing the whole thing laid out from 33 AD forward changed how I read church history.

    Margaret H, USA

  • David R, USA

One idea per page, and it works

I've started plenty of books like this and stalled by chapter three. This one moves. Each spread makes a single point, finishes it, and moves on. I read it over two evenings.

    David R, USA

  • Karen S, Germany

The illustrations are doing real work

I expected decoration. Instead the pictures carry half the explanation, especially in the sections on worship and icons. I understood things there that I'd never understood in words.

    Karen S, Germany

  • James T, Sweden

It treats you like an adult

No fear tactics, no hard sell, no closing chapter telling me what to do about it. It lays out the history and lets you draw your own conclusion. That is rarer than it should be.

    James T, Sweden

  • Linda M, USA

Answered the question I'd had for years

Why are there so many denominations if there was one church? Nobody had ever given me a straight answer to that. This gave me a straight answer, with dates attached.

    Linda M, USA

  • Eduardo S, Spain

    Good enough to leave out

The gold foil and the cream linen are the real thing, not a print effect. It's been on our table a month and three different guests have picked it up and started reading it.

    Eduardo S, Spain

  • Rebecca A, USA

    Clear without being shallow

I worried that made clear would mean dumbed down. It doesn't. It explains the councils and the schism properly, just in plain words. My teenager read it after me and followed all of it.

    Rebecca A, USA

  • Susan A, USA

The chapter on icons alone was worth it

I'd always found praying with images strange and a little uncomfortable. That chapter didn't argue at me, it just explained the reasoning behind it. It makes sense to me now.

    Susan A, USA

  • Samuel S, USA

Sixty-six years in church and I knew none of this

I could not have told you what happened in 1054. That's not a complaint about my church, it simply was never taught. Now I know, and a lot of other things fit around it.

    Samuel S, USA

  • Beatrice L, USA

    Ordered a second copy

Bought one for myself and ordered another for my father-in-law the same week. It's the rare book you can hand to someone without it feeling like a lecture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this approved by Orthodox priests?

The hardcover, yes. Before it reached you, The Orthodox Faith Made Clear was read and approved by Orthodox priests, and today it is carried in Orthodox church shops.

The four companions are written by the same rule as the book: nothing invented. Their teaching is drawn from the Church's own service books, from Scripture, and from named saints and teachers, and every quotation is attributed so you can check it.

What exactly do I get?

The book. The Orthodox Faith Made Clear, the premium illustrated hardcover, 240 pages, cream linen with gold foil.

The four companions. Four paperback booklets, 52 pages each, made to sit beside it:

  • An Introduction to the Divine Liturgy: what you see, what it means, what you do
  • How to Pray the Orthodox Way: what prayer is, what it means, and how to begin
  • Raising Children in the Faith: the Orthodox way, from baptism to the teenage years
  • How to Love Your Spouse: what the Church says, what it means, what you can do

None of them repeats a page of the book. The book tells you what the Church believes; the companions take you into worship, prayer, your children and your marriage.

Three gifts with every order. An Orthodox prayer bracelet in the box for every set, and two guides sent as PDFs the moment you order: Your First Sunday and Am I Really Saved?

Do the booklets repeat what is in the book?

No. Every page of the four companions is new. The book explains what the Orthodox Church believes and where it came from; the companions pick up where it ends and stay with the practical side: the service, prayer, children and marriage. Nothing is reprinted from the book, and no booklet repeats another.

How big are the booklets?

Each companion is a 52-page paperback, 125 × 175 mm, about the size of a pocket prayer book, set in the same type and design as the hardcover. Small enough to keep by the bed, in a bag, or beside the icon corner.

Which should I read first?

Start with the book. It gives you the whole picture, and the companions make the most sense once you have it. After that, open whichever one meets you where you are. They are written to be read in any order.

Is this doctrinally sound?

Yes, and it was written so you can check. Every scriptural claim is quoted in context, starting with Matthew 16:18, and every historical claim, including the timeline of 33 AD, 1054, and 1517, is documented church history you can verify in any encyclopedia. Nothing in this book asks you to take our word over Scripture or the historical record.

Is this trying to convert me, or attack my church?

Neither. You won't find a single line telling you your church is wrong. That's a rule we wrote the book by. It simply tells the story of the original church, the one most of us were never taught, and lets you decide what it means for you. Curiosity is the only thing it asks of you.

I'm Baptist, Catholic, or non-denominational. Is this for me?

Yes. This book was written for every Christian who's ever wondered where it all began. There's nothing to renounce and nothing to join. Readers from every background walk through the same 2,000-year story and keep everything they love about their own faith. Many say it made their faith feel deeper, not different.

I'm Catholic. Isn't this more or less the same thing?

Closer than most people realise, which is exactly why the question deserves a proper answer. Both Churches trace themselves to the Apostles, both have bishops, sacraments and the Creed, and they were one Church for a thousand years. What happened in 1054, and what had been added to the Creed before it, is set out in the book with the dates and the documents, so you can weigh it for yourself rather than take anyone's word for it.

If part of what unsettles you is watching things change in your own parish, that is worth reading about too. What the Orthodox Church does with change is the whole subject of this book.

What about the church I'm in now?

Nothing here asks you to leave it. You can love the people you worship beside, keep praying for them, and still want to know where all of it began. Most readers simply end up understanding more than they did, and stay exactly where they are.

If you ever do want to visit an Orthodox service, the free guide that comes with the book walks you through your first one. There is no step after that unless you want there to be, and nobody will contact you.

I'm only looking into Orthodoxy. Is this for an inquirer?

That is exactly who it is written for. Inquirer is the Church's own word for someone asking questions without having decided anything, and it is a normal place to stand for as long as you need to.

The book assumes no background, quotes its sources in context, and leaves the conclusion to you. Plenty of people read it, learn the history they were never taught, and go no further. That is a perfectly good outcome.

People keep recommending thick books. Where should I start?

With one you can actually finish. The standard introductions to Orthodoxy are excellent and they are what most inquirers get pointed to first, but they are dense, and a great many readers stall a hundred pages in and quietly conclude the fault is theirs.

A priest's advice to one inquirer was simply this: go slow. That is what this book is built for. One idea to a page, carried by illustration, told in the order the story actually happened. Read the heavier books afterwards and they will make a great deal more sense.

Greek, Russian, Romanian, Antiochian. Does it matter which one?

Not for what you believe. They are one and the same Church, holding the same faith and serving the same Divine Liturgy. What differs is language, music, food and the character of the particular parish, and across most of North America the services are held partly or entirely in English.

One distinction is worth knowing, because nobody tends to mention it to beginners: the Coptic, Ethiopian, Syriac and Armenian churches also use the word Orthodox, but they are a separate communion. If you are looking for the Church this book describes, look for Eastern Orthodox.

Would I have to give up where I come from?

The Orthodox Church has never worked that way. Wherever it went it translated the services into the local language, sometimes creating an alphabet in order to do it, and ordained priests from among local people rather than sending rulers over them. That is why there is a Greek Church and a Russian Church and a Japanese Church, all one faith in their own tongue.

And this is a book, not a decision. Reading it asks nothing of you and commits you to nothing.

I'm completely new to this. Is it beginner-friendly?

Completely. It assumes zero background: no Greek words left unexplained, no theology degree required. Every idea is told in plain words and carried by illustrations, so it makes sense the very first time you read it, even if you've never heard the word Orthodox before.

Is it really illustrated?

Yes, watercolor and gold illustrated spreads run through the whole book. The illustrations aren't decoration; they carry the story, the same way the ancient church has always taught through images. It's a book made to be seen as much as read.

How long does shipping take?

The book is printed and shipped in batches. Orders placed now are pre-orders and go out with the next batch, which ships October 29th.

Once it leaves us, it travels fully insured and tracked, and most orders arrive within 5 to 14 days depending on your location. We ship worldwide.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes, a 30-day money-back guarantee. Read it for 30 days. If it isn't everything you hoped for, we'll refund you in full, no questions asked. We only want you to keep it if it brings you something real.

Is it right as a gift?

Beautifully so. It's a cream linen hardcover with gold foil lettering, made to be kept on a shelf and passed around a family. Clear enough for a teenager, deep enough for a grandparent, and a gentle gift for anyone who's been quietly searching.

When do the two free guides arrive?

They're emailed to the address on your order, so you can start reading straight away while the book is on its way. If they don't show up, check your spam folder, or email support@unbrokenvine.com and we'll send them over personally.

Is the free bracelet included with every set?

Yes. Every Complete Edition comes with its own Orthodox prayer bracelet in the box, so two sets arrive with two bracelets and three sets with three. If you are buying a set to give away, it is complete on its own, bracelet included.

The two free e-guides come with your order as well, one set per order.

Is this a Bible, or a study guide?

Neither. It's an illustrated history and introduction, meant to be read straight through rather than studied. It quotes Scripture throughout and points you back to it, but it doesn't replace your Bible, and there are no lessons, worksheets, or homework in it.

What if my book arrives damaged?

Email support@unbrokenvine.com with a photo and we'll send a replacement, no return needed. It's a hardcover and it ships protected, but post is post, and this isn't the kind of book you want arriving with a bent corner.

Can I track my order?

Yes. Every order ships fully insured with tracking, and the number is emailed to you as soon as it leaves us. Pre-orders go out with the next batch on October 29th, and most arrive within 5 to 14 days after that, depending on where you are.

Is this a denomination recruiting pitch?

No. Nobody will contact you, there's no membership push, and no follow-up sermon. The book stands entirely on its own: a beautifully illustrated history that ends with a soft "here's how to see more, if you're curious", and nothing else.
